Found this piece. Appears to be made of brass. Thought to be a belt buckle at first but the way the hooks are on the back the B would not be correctly positioned for buckle.

It looks to me like a horse bridle rosette with a broken loop on back. The size looks right, as 2-1/4" is a common size.

I thought that but was concerned about the back hooks. But after your post I realized that one side is longer than the other. Good observation nhbenz.
