Found CW era pistol barrel.

I found this pistol barrel yesterday at an encampment I have been working for several months...I dig most iorn signals a a CW site...Dug it at about seven inches...I believe it to be a percussion boxlock pistol...Any ideas?? Will look good in my meager CW collection. Fellow TN member and friend BamaBill and his son came up and hunted with me a couple of times last week...Really enjoyed their company...Hope we can hunt again real soon...

Supper dig on barrel and other goodie... . Hard to say what caliber but would guess a 25 or 30 cal. Hope someone can determine exact caliber for you.

Do you try to clean something like that? Wouldn't it be better left as is? I don't know....

Yea, I'm not much on cleaning my finds less than a little soap and water, however, iron is a little different. Oxygen is the enemy, therefore the rust needs to be removed and the piece protected, if not it will continue to rust and eventually rust till nothing is left. I entend on putting it in an electrolysis today, coat it with some wax, and bake it awhile. Thanks for taking the time to respond...
