This is the only thing of interest to pop out of the ground yesterday. Don't know a lot about them. Didn't want to scrub on it, so, I don't know if there are any markings. All info is appreciated, though! Approx the size of a nickel.

Those buttons without backmarks generally are from the 3rd and 4th quarter of the 18th century. By 1800, backmarks started to come into use, and a button with a backmark would be made after 1800.
Thanks Smokey! Thank you everyone, for the comments and input! Hitting that spot again tomorrow! Louis and Clark passed through here in 1804. There were also fur trappers in this area at that time.
