Updated pix on my Draped Bust Half Cent

I hunted with Vino today in Phila, one of our old haunts we hunted several times before. George set me up with a great program on the Deus and I hit a deep, I believe Draped Bust Half Cent. My other finds were Lincolns, maybe a part of a pocket watch, Ben Franklins toe nail clippers (lol) and one flat button.
George hit a Trime 1861. Amazing we can go in these spots and still find these great finds. Thanks George for another great hunt.
Enjoy the pix

I will be working slowly cleaning the Half Cent over the next couple weeks, see what I can do?20150325_082627.webp20150325_082308.webp

Nice hunt Treb. Amazing you guys are still eeking out a few finds.

I'm going to hope I get back to where I found that last ring before it gets too warm. I want to try around those cellar holes with that program George loaded for me. I'd really like to go back where I found my Spanish Real, might pick up another there.

hey sometimes it takes another set of eyes on your machine to help with settings, both dave and I had learned a thing or two off each others techniques last season, hopefully you nailed a good setting down and start raking in the finds!

Nice coins! Can't tell for sure but that half cent looks like it might be a Liberty Cap.

It kinda looks like it, I had both examples next to that one pic of mine. It looks like the larger bust of the Draped Bust, I'm hoping there is a good amount of detail on the reverse where the fraction is (1/200). It might happen. I seen that old dirt at this site before just cover up things on some of the other LC's I found there. One was a NJ copper, that popped after soaking, the other was a Classic Head 1813 that came up later after a little cleaning.

Thanks

Nice digs indeed CONGRATS
Thanks

Great job on the coins guys. It's hard to tell about that half cent, but it appears to be draped as you suggested. Maybe some careful cleaning will reveal more details. Good luck.
Thanks, we will see.

Great hunt Treb! That spot is amazing and keeps producing. George and I hit it and each pulled two coppers as I'm sure he mentioned. I thought it was ka-put but look at the stuff you fellas pulled?! My hat is off.

Congrats!

Ps- I thought one of my finds two weeks ago was a draped bust half too...
Thanks Scrappy

Awesome Hunt!
Thanks

Thanks

I forgot to ask brad, any coin licking take place there?? lol
Couldn't help myself!

WTG TH & keep us posted. great saves! HH, Q.

Thanks Q, she is for sure a Draped Bust Half, the reverse is showing a few things, A few more days I'll have her cleaned up to as good as whats left, which it is what it is. I'm glad I found her.

Go Brad go! Good to see you pulling some oldies. Jelly. GL&HH!

That's great Treb. Can't wait to see pictures!

yeahhhhhhhhhhh! Oh that's some
sweetness!

Congrats on some nice finds Brad! The Half Cent is definitely a Draped Bust and since it has the 2nd Reverse, it falls date-wise from 1803 to 1808. George can help you with some tips on cleaning it!

Nice digs and a piece of advice- let it sit in mineral oil for a week. This will stem your screaming desire to clean it (trust me we've all been there) and allow the oil to work on that top layer of crust. After a week, gently tooth pick away the surface crust with a damp toothpick, stopping after you achieve a level of detail your comfortable with. While the accepted rule is never to clean a coin, I have had decent success in the past using this method.

Nice one, cant wait to see it when its cleaned up....

Very nice Brad. You got way more detail than I could from mine.

Great advice that can benefit a Copper coin that needs help as in cleaning! If a coin is too far gone and the only details left are the impressions embedded in crusted corrosion, then in most cases they are a lost cause and one can only hope to arrest further damage from corrosion and possible verdi gris. Some folks use toothpicks to clean up Copper coins after a good soak in Mineral Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil but to get down into the smaller areas and crevices, one needs to use a sharp but green Rose Thorn.
