I got out for about 1.5 hours today at a 1000 year old farm site where I can still see the outlines of the barns that were there.? Found a large apothecary bowl as I entered the field where the farmers drive in right in the middle of the tractor wheel ruts, I wasn?t hunting at that point, just had the detector on and hit a good signal.? I almost didn?t dig it due to the spot it was in, after chipping at the frozen ground about 3? down, this pops out, it?s the larger bowl of the set with the small one centimeter piece of paper in front of it for size.? This is my 7th apothecary bowl find and all but two are different sizes so they all fit together into the largest bowl I found today. I'm sure they are brass.

I dug some trash, two Ox shoes, two iron farm rings and this horse harness attachment.? Had to quit sooner than expected due to a snow storm, it got really bad!? I was hunting with the Fisher CZ7A with the 10.5? coil and I am definitely sure I am getting deeper but it?s a heavy SOB!? HH all, Mike

Nice going mike.

It must be a great feeling knowing you might find things thousands of years old.
Here in Canada its a stretch if you find things older than the 1600s
my oldest being from 1740s.
I intend on going to the UK this year for a chance at the ancient relics.
How old are thouse Bowls?

Two of them have a "1" stamped in the bottom but the 1 is a style used in the 1600s and 1700s. Two others have a hallmark or a makers mark but I can't make them out. HH, Mike

Nice finds, sounds like you have a great hunting site there. Keep the pics coming.

wow! 1000 years old...that's awesome! Keep us posted on finds from your ancient site! :)

Hmmm! Let me see. 100 x20 - 50% = 1000. Yep! 1000 years is a long time to wait for a detectorist to digumup. Neat find. Good pix. Spotz

Apothocary ( pharmacy) used for mixing Medicines I'd say :)

Hmmm... the third bowl from the left looks EXACTLY like the apothecary bowl I
lost just about, well, 800 years ago on a vacation to Bavaria... ;D
