Absolutely. Could be either British or American, difference in size, way it's made can put a date on it. 1812 period or slightly later. A real nice find, took me about seven years to dig one and that was probably digging 200 early buttons in the process.

Nicely done...that is a very nice cross belt plate! Rare to see all of the attachment points intact.
