Found Rolex Submariner

Forgot to post this when it happened a couple weeks ago....
I've already restored it, minus the dial. It can be seen on my you tube channel "ddaavvee".

If we can find the owner, I'll give it back. Just need to prove it's theirs, which is easy since there is something engraved on the back. We've just been super unlucky locating her/him.

First time metal detecting in months and I ticked off a bucket list find, in spectacular fashion. A 1971 Rolex Submariner Ref: 5513. The only damage is the crystal, bezel insert, and the dial, otherwise it started running in my pocket, crown unscrews and sets and winds, and there seems.

Found in the pacific with a the Minelab Manticore, rang up a perfect 47. Settings are beach low conductors, 0gb, noise cancel -9, recovery 3, sensitivity 27, all metal, ferrous volume 2, prospect tone, upper ferrous limit 3, lower ferrous limit 1. Found at a super low tide very wet sand about 30-40 yard off the dry area. It was about 8 -10 inches down under the nice sand in the mucky, stinky, black layer.

Also found a Tiffany ring and a few square whole Japanese coins.

I believe a lot of those were bought at main px in VietNam 69-72 H TROOP 17TH CAV 198TH INF

It would be cool to know the history of the watch. If I ever find the owner, I'll post what we discover here.

Nonsense, they are chronometer rated and keep excellent time for a mechanical watch.

This one is actually not the chronometer model, but it's been maintaining great time since I serviced it. Most of my watches keep good time after I service them. The only ones I have problems with are seikos, its not terrible. But definitely noticeable and way more common with the seikos than any other movements.

You are conflating chronometer with chronograph. Two different things.

No, I am not. A chronograph is a tool with operating pushers to start and stop the the second, minute, and/or hour registers measuring specific periods of time, distance, or whatever else. A certified chronometer is a more accurate version of a basic time telling watch that must pass a rigorous testing and regulating period. This increases man hours during manufacturing and also increasing cost. So, to make more watches "cheaper", and where a super accurate time teller is not needed, they offered a basic model. For this watch the 1520 movement is that basic version, where the "precision" model had the 1560 that is chronometer certified.

In your original post you said there was something inscribed on the back, were you able to read it after the restoration. And if you don't mind me asking, what did it cost to get it all done? Its stunning.

It's legible and I collect and repair mechanical watches. So I did all the work for the cost of a new dial, bracelet, and oil. It was in really good shape for being in the ocean for so long.
