I found this sterling silver pin in the park today located in Oneonta NY. On the front of the pin there is a name engraved which reads " William Simmons". The S on the Simmons is in cursive and also could be a "Y" or "L". The back of the pin read Sterling <S>. Does anyone know what time period this could be from or have any other information on it. Thanks, any info would be greatly appreciated

Looks like William Timmon's to me: Personal

Timmons graduated from Georgetown University. He has three children and nine grandchildren. He is a 33rd degree Freemason, past officer of the Sons of the American Revolution, and is an active member of the Society of the Cincinnati and various state and county historical organizations. He has served on boards or advisory commissions for Georgetown University's Business School, the International College at the University of South Carolina, Parent's Council of Texas Christian University, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.[3

Agree. Victorian era. Maybe a mourning pin? Or a sweetheart pin? Both? :-\

Here is the one I found last year at some foundations, it was a clasp with a spring. I never did find out its purpose.
