I don't know what culture the wolf is from. You might want to check out poverty point. Here is a picture of an owl pendant that my wife found.

Thanks Steven I,ve had that head to artifact shows all over and I still have not seen another one.I saw something close in a museum. Maybe it is one of a kind. One collector told me he had seen them in New MEXICO.If I had not found another 100 or so Indian artifacts in that field I would have give up on it being something an Indian had made at all Jeff

Still looking for info on head. Turned down Hundred dollars for it 25 yrs. ago, must be something. The guy said it was a head effigy off a cerimonial pot? Jeff

In all likelihood, it probably was an "adorno" from a pot. There's really no telling if it was a "ceremonial" pot, or just a well made vessel. Effigy adornos on ceramics is not uncommon at all.

Does the head appear to be made from carved stone or pottery? Pottery usually will have some type of tempering material mixed in with the clay such as grit or ground up shell. I have a similar piece from a broken Monongahela rim sherd that could be a fox or dog but the detail is not as sharp.

Thanks Matt. I value your opinion, you seem to be one of the more knowledgable people on this forum.
