The only UAT I can think of is the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa=UAT. Perhaps they had a marching band or a military artillery progran there. During the civil war they had only one building. At any rate it would be a good place to start researching on. When you find out let us know.

Awesome button!!!
first time laying eyes on it as well.....

Very nice, I haven't seen a button like that.

That is the first that I have ever seen one.Congrats on a super find

Nice button, here is what is said in Albert's book:
RI 33 Rhode Island, United Train of Artillery; 2-piece with border.
A. The intials U T A, crossed cannon with the date 1775 with coiled rattlesnake above , on a lined field.

Usual backmark would be *D. Evans & Co.*/Attleboro Mass RV 3

No information on if it is only Civil War, pre Civil War or Post Civil War, I think the exact backmark would have to be known to say for sure. Does not mention if they were made after the CW or not, the company was in business making buttons after CW so if you can get the exact backmark wording and symbols, that would nail it down for sure, otherwise consider that era anyway.

Side note: Wonder why 1775 date is there? RI became state in 1790, so it isn't that, unless Albert's meant a 1776 date, but his example seems to look like a 1775.
