Found this in a corn field. What Is It??

Today we went out to an Old farm house. We found this thing, I don't know what it is. Help us out, have any ideas? We also found 41D quarter. HH!! Swingit​

Maybe a decorative finial, that is held by a spring, similar to a hood ornament on some cars.

How about some kind of key, that is used to wind something up.

Upside down? Looks like it had a hook to hang on something. Or...maybe something hung on it? Monty

I think it is upside down as well. If it were mounted on the wall, the hook wouldn't "work." So it seems the hook would be attached to something and the rest is ornamentation. Hooked to what is the question.
