found this on a field

Hello after todays metal detecting on a field i found this. can somebody help me identify what it is ?

I'm thinking a fancy old door knob rose plate? ... I don't know the size of it, so I could be off on that guess?

I'm guessing it's the wax catcher ring from a candle stick. But as Tamrock said, you neglected to tell us the size, so there is no way to know for sure.
