In captina creek... we were thinking possibly petrified palm wood definately not like the usual wood we find

I've never seen pet wood from Ohio. Have you found any before this one? It looks to have rings like regular trees. Palm wood doesn't.

I need to clean it up some more but it looks like it has a white core that runs all the way through the center

Wow! You are finding a lot of pet wood. Do you think your wood was brought down with the glacier or is it a local deposit? I’m in the glacial part of IL and have only found one piece of pet wood in the glacial till. I’ve hunted the till for many yrs.

Picture above is what i've found this year

If you have access to a wet saw with a thin blade cutting cross sections of some of those would reveal the tree rings. It usually is very nice looking as well.

This is a piece of pet wood that was cut & polished. You never know how they will turn out.

From what i have looked up it's from an ancient river system here is a screenshot with more info
