Found this piece today on the side of the road. Grabbed it. Decided to paint it. Then got to wondering.....how old is this? Should i have painted it?

Looks very nice, but I would have stripped it down, applied cherry stain to it and then a few coats of polyurethane.

Not sure how old, but probably not antique. Check for dovetail joints on the drawers. No dovetail joints or uniform dovetails and it's not antique.

Agree mostly on the dovetailing of the drawers.
Though over the years I've seen antiques with other types of joints as well. Mortised, Knapp, common Rabbet joints on drawer construction.
Screws/nail heads on the furniture can tell its age.

If only people would put all the relevant information in one thread!

I replied on your other thread, where you didn't mention that you had painted this yourself. As I said, Henry Link pieces in 'French Provincial' style first appeared in the 1950s as varnished wood, sometimes with paint accents. Full factory-painted pieces began appearing in the 1960s. The latter have a lower value than the 'bare' wood ones.

It doesn't look to have been in great condition at the time you found it. If it had been, then painting it would have reduced its value, but I don't think you have done it any harm As things stand it only has value as a functional utility item, not a collector piece and is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it on that basis.

Agreed on my end 👍. A fresh coat of paint is what it needed and extending its life is great imo. Also the could've, should've, would've will be open for debate, as others may come along to say. Either way it looked like something fun to do.
