found years ago under homemade wine bottle cap...

Hi all, my brother sent me these pictures in the hopes that someone here might happen to know what it is. He believes its an old coin, and it does kind of look that way to me too. He found it maybe 30 years ago under the cap of a bottle of homemade wine he was given. Anyone know what this is?
