Just looking for statistics to share with those that think I am nuts(which I am a bit)...
What is your ratio of dump locations to pick up amount?
I try to stay 1 dump location for every 1 thousand in half I pick up...
so 1dump:1k

Also, just curious, how many different bank accounts people have out there? I bet some of you have WAY more than that.
I have 7 bank accounts now and looking for a few more!

Just interested to see what you all have, No need to divulge any secrets really, just some numbers!
Have fun folks!

Having a bunch of bank accounts in itself is not a problem. Opening or closing too many too fast can be though. Banks use a reporting system called ChexSystem. You can get into a situation where banks won't touch you if you fail the Chex inquiry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChexSystems
https://www.consumerdebit.com/consumerinfo/us/en/chexsystems/faqs.htm

Do some research and proceed with caution.

I order halves from a wells fargo, 2 boxes each time. I have an account.
I pick up coins from TD bank, they supply me with boxes of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters, as long as they have enough for their business customers. I have an account.
I dump at TD bank, they don't mind amounts around $750, but triple digits can sometimes get them annoyed. I try to stay under $1,000 dumping, but sometimes I go over. no big deal.
I order halves from Bank of America(I have only ordered from this bank 3 times in the past half year), they don't like me in there much, i don't think. I will try to order from them hopefully this week. I have an account with BofA.

I just found another dump bank, PNC bank. I have only used them once. (yesterday). I do not have an account with them, but their coin counter is free for non-members. Will see how this bank works. Might have to talk to the vault manager into ordering me half dollars, will see. It wil be a tough one, want them as a dump bank, but I want them as a half dollar order bank too... Will have to build up a relationship with the bank employees over the course of a couple months, maybe they won't mind me too much. The one women at the front desk was really nice when I walked in asking if the coin machine was free for non-members.

^I might open a PNC account.

Right now I only have 2 accounts and 4 banks I go to regularly. One account at a dump bank and one account at a pickup bank, and one non-account dump bank and one non-account pickup bank. Neither of my dump banks have coin counters (or any banks in this city I think) so I have to re-roll everything, and keeps the tellers happy. The dump bank I don't have an account with has never complained or asked if I have an account so that's nice. The dump bank I do have an account with made me get that account in order to be able to dump more, but for a student account the minimum deposit was only $25 with no fees until I graduate. I may have to make an account at the other pickup bank soon ($250 minimum - ouch) but if my other pickup bank works well I'll just stay there.

My question is: how do you deal with the minimum deposit amounts? I only have $200 to spare right now - with an extra $100 in Ikes that I plan to sell. I want to keep this hobby as free as possible for myself (so no fees - I don't even drive a car :laughing9: ) and withdrawing $1000 in my savings account would be impossible to explain to my parents, who can see my bank account statement. I don't know what to do at this point. :(

Finding the time to pickup, search, and dump with college classes is a challenge too. :(

Do like others do. Move out, get a job, and go to college at the same time. Then you will take control of your own life.

I'm going to college in CA and am from Vegas. I moved away for college but still go home for the holidays, summer break, etc. I'm trying to get a job on campus but everything's filled. My parents don't even know I CRH. :laughing9:

Just keep buying and dumping, even if your buys are small.

The guy that works and flips $200 three times a week is doing a box of halves and $100 in dimes. That guy is finding more silver than the person that thinks that a bank roll of $200 is a waste of time.

Just keep working your $200, and whatever else you can drum up. Even if you pick up an extra $25 to your roll, and flip it three times a week gives you another 15 rolls of dimes to search.

At the same time, it is time to have a sit down with the parents, and explain what you are doing. Show them that you can be mature with the $1,000. Show them that you can handle $1,000 and manage flawlessly.

Keep up the good work!

In this hobby you can do more in one day with that $1,000 in your pocket than the minuscule interest it is earning for one year in your savings account.

Good luck.

Nick

I started full time back in 2003 , with only $300 .
Now , after 2 cars, 1 crotch rocket, and a used cherokee, which all profit from this hobby, I still be able to keep searching coins , with the $300 I started back in 03' , X 100......

Keep on Rolling. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

p/s This hobby isn't as easy as you think, don't give up when you get kick out from few banks for dumping/asking.
