Hey guys. I found a couple of these at a colonial site that I hunt alot. This one has brass on the end and almost 9" long. I'm hoping someone out there knows lol.

funny I found what looks to be the same finial part to this the other week, im just missing that loop thing. I was guessing lamp part

Whatever it is, it's no later than 1830. The homesite was abandoned around that time

Seems short for an andiron. Can you try and see if the round part is a hinge? Could be broken fireplace tongs.

It does appear to be hinged. The round middle part would be the hinge and the 2 half circle arms look like they should move. Much like this. I think you nailed it!

Nice old find. At first I thought maybe some sort of a handle for a throttle cable driven mechanism. Interesting :icon_scratch:

After further review I am going with above mentioned...

Brass finial iron hearth tongs.
