Got out Friday AM to Bel Air and Saturday AM to Baltimore.

Friday started out with a tombac button. It is shown next to a shallow U-frame shaped piece that has a primitive decoration of 9 dots at each end and a pattern between them that may be taken to be a key. Could this have been attached to a lock? It looks period with the tombac buttons (2) and large cent, half cent , and shoe buckle fragment that have come from this area. After that I shot into the woods and collected 19 shotgun backmarks. The best are pictured: 5 UMC, 2 Winchester, and 1 US; the UMC Nitro Club has the petals surrounding the primer, which dates it to the 1890s.

Baltimore on Saturday was a drizzle all the way. $2 in clad, a 1913 wheat, a 1983 McDonald's token and a late 19th century heart pendant was the take. When I dug the token I thought I had a silver dollar; it is the same diameter as one and has a reeded edge.

Fun to get out. Hunting at Druid made me extra thankful to being able to look for relics in Bel Air, where the "trash" in the ground is mostly iron.

Happy Hunting!

"I cannot believe it, this is the greatest day of my metal detecting life. I am so joyous and fulfilled! I has found a silver dollar!

Oh, wait a minute. It is a McDonald's token, and it's expired."

Thanks for the 'thumbs up', vpnavy!

Thank you, Art! I'd rather be relic hunting!

Thanks ATW!. That heart pendant looks 1800s to me; it really is my next best find of the two hunts, next to the button. Hope to hit some new territory this week.

Of course Mc finds a Mc. I think the token is great (I remember them)! And the pendant is nice, too. Congrats. -Lisa & John

I'm envious! Great finds.

Sweet finds!! Congrats and HH

Cool token and pendant, congratulations!

Thanks Lisa and John! Yes the Mc connection was not lost on me when I found out what I had dug. That is the third Mc item I've dug this year. The others were: (1) an early Baltimore City dog license that has "M & C. C." stamped on it, along with the tag number 15657 and the year, 1901, and (2) a worker's tag who was an employee of Ryan and McDonald for the construction of the Howard Street railroad tunnel; that tag is stamped "R. & McD. Balto Belt Tunnel" and the number 1346, which I took as the employee number.

"Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun."

Thx Tradertom! Happy Hunting. May the trash lead you to the keepers.

Thanks Professor. I think the token was only made in 1983. That year I was 30 and by second son was born.

Thx Diggin Dude! Hoping to get out this week, maybe to a city park I've only hit a few times before.

You should make McDonalds pay up.

Thanks Smokey! It is a quarter-back token. It's the first I've found, so I'll keep it for now. Though it would be fun to try it for a quarter off my next order.
