Hello and happy Friday- MAJOR DISCLAIMER: I have not physically seen or touched this find, a friend of mine recovered it this morning on the beach in Lewes, Delaware.

He's an absolute rookie who has only been out with us a handful of times.

Can anyone tell what this is that he's found? I apologize but I don't have weights or dimensions etc. and he hasn't sent a pic of the obverse yet. Any ideas?

No idea what your friend found...but it certainly would get my blood pressure up. Could you ask him for some additional pictures, weight/ diameter?

Yup, some close-up photos of both sides will help.

This is all very interesting!

I think I might have found a close match to what was found.

I've also metal detected at Lewis Delaware, Cape Henlopen Beach in the past. One time I found a handful of chocolate gold coins buried in the sand. I think someone likes to have fun with people that metal detect there.😀

When posting finds and asking questions or members opinions on a find, please always post multiple pictures in focus of both sides and edge(s).

My mom used to live in Delaware. I remember a “coin beach” up that way that was famous for old shipwreck coins. There was also a shipwreck museum around there that was upstairs at a gift and metal detector shop. Very cool museum. Congrats on the find. 👍
