Getting so tired of the only good signals being pennies that my AT pro slams on! I've found more gold with my Garrett 250 and more silver as well. My AT pro just doesn't find the stuff like my Ace can. Maybe I'm putting on too much discrimination. What would be an upgrade from an AT pro, that I could get better results with.

Not trying to be a smart a** but if there is silver at the sites you are hunting the pro will find it. I'm hunting a site now and finding only Indian heads and one shield nickel. Finding lots of buttons to but no silver yet. I'm betting if there is silver there my coil hasn't passed over it yet. I've found silver with the pro and there is no mistaking it when coil goes over it. Good luck.

Maybe I'm just in a slump. I'm so tired of digging 81's and pulling out pennies. You have to dig those cause if you don't then you're passing up those silver dimes.

I never go above 40, No gold yet but some Silver Rings!!!

I set her at 35 iron, so if the gold is there then it should let me know. I talked to my dealer and he said maybe I should set it at zero. Gold is mixed with other metal alloys so it could be cancelling out the gold if you discriminate to much iron.

I agree with Kodiak, If you get over silver you will know!! My AT is my first detector, I have found silver, coins as well as rings. Once your comfortable with it, your 250 wont get much use!

I hunt in pro with zero disc. Yea it's noisy but you can hear the good targets in the iron too. I have put disc at 33 and ran with iron audio on and that helps to narrow down targets too. I'm in a silver coin slump now too but if they are there I'll find them.

Your ratio of pennies to other coins will always be high, because pennies are the least likely to be picked up when dropped.

Oh yea I also auto ground balance and then drop it at least five.

I run the same, except I turn the iron audio on to check targets, then turn it off or it drives me nuts

Yeah I agree with all of you. Thanks for your support guys. I have more faith now! Sometimes you just need to come on here and get some feed back when you get discouraged. Thanks again guys! I'll get her back out there

All depends on what was dropped and if the ground was moved around a lot or undisturbed. Most recent old home site (circa 1780s?) only dug a few pennies from the 1960s and a old brass cow bell from the 1700s second time in popped a king George the second half pence 1746. Don't get discouraged patience pays out! Don't expect every site to hold gold and silver......

The more I run my AT Pro, the more I love it. Don't get discouraged! I also find a ton of pennies. Seems like I find a ratio of five pennies to every dime or quarter. It also seems like some areas have already been cherry picked. Keep at it and go SLOW. If you go to fast, you'll miss the deeper signals.

After you get 100 hr or so you will sort of like it but when you get over 250 hours you will love it. If it's there you can find it. Actually lately I find about 3 clad to one penny. Today in 1/2 hr I found $3.05 in clad and 7 cents in pennies. I did have one day last year when i came home with 37 cents in pennies and not one wheatie and no clad.

The silver dimes I have found ring in around 83-85. I know soil conditions and depth play a roll but it has been pretty consistent for me. Whether on a beach or in an old park, they have all been in that range. HH.

Digging lots of pennies is part of metal detecting. You always can change locations where there are fewer coins, thus fewer pennies, or just keep digging them. If you notch out pennies, you lose silver rings and silver coins.

Before gold sky rocketed a few years back, I often bought a gold coin with all my pennies, and now have about 10 gold coins.
A darn good move that was as gold prices including coins went through the roof.

Here are a couple of the foreign coins I had purchased in the past.

If you are hunting spots that others hunt frequently, you might be finding pennies that are being ignored by the "cherry pickers ". Some guys that coinshoot don't dig penny signals.

If I were you, I would quit Metal Detecting where people are Penny Pitching

Thanks guys! I don't mind digging the pennies and they do add up fast. I know if I don't, I'm passing up the silver but somedays it can really get to a guy.
