Another month, another full moon. That means one thing. I’m headed to my night turf spot where I’ve dug a few Injuns and mercs this year. Last night, I returned to a school-bus sized area where I had found my first turf silver last year and had searched 2x. I honestly thought maybe I could pull one more silver coin out of here. I went super-slow again and pretty quickly found 2 mercs and 3 wheats! As I was digging the 2nd merc, a cop car came ROLLING ACROSS THE LAWN and I thought uh-oh. I had a nice pile of dirt on my mat, was wearing camo pants, had a sharp digger in my left hand, AND a pistol probe sticking out of my left pocket! The cop rolled his window down, I took off my headphones, and he said, "Whaddya got?". Relieved, I said, it's still in the hole! "You find much here?", he asked? I said, yeah an old penny now and then. He said, "Have a good one!" and I thanked him for checking in on me! I then retrieved a merc from the hole, moved onto another spot, and got another wheat and then got one of the crappiest deep high-conductor signals I’ve ever heard. It was repeatable though and I figured it was going to be a slice of a silver coin. Because it was night, I can’t say how deep it actually was. Once I had it out of the hole, I thought, aha, silver dime! Knocked some dirt off the coin and in the moonlight, I saw “ONE DIME” surrounded by a wreath! I said out load, “I got one!” The Barber was my 40th silver coin of the year.
It took about 30 seconds for me to realize, hey, I’ve got a shot at a trifecta here! All I need is a silver rosie. I immediately went back to the school-bus sized plot and within 5 minutes had a great signal. It was another merc! By this time, it was 10pm and I really had to get going, so no trifecta, but I’m not complaining. The Barber is a 1899-S! The mercs are 1918, 1942, and 1944. Oldest wheat was a ’35-S, my first one. Thanks for looking everyone!
