Found a few clumps of these growing at the base of a huge old cottonwood tree this morning near Clear Creek.
According to google lens: These mushrooms appear to be Scaly Ink Caps (Coprinopsis variegata), characterized by their woolly, yellowish-white flakes on the caps.The gills are initially white but turn black and begin to dissolve into a dark "ink" as the mushrooms mature. They typically grow in clusters on leaf litter or rotted hardwood. While they resemble Shaggy Manes, Scaly Ink Caps are generally not recommended for consumption.
