✅ SOLVED Furniture, muscial, lightning rod?

Found this at one of the cabin sites at our mine 1880-1940. It's one of those things ya look at and know you've seen one before but can't for the life of ya think of the name. 21" overall length.

NOT SURE WHAT YOU HAVE THERE BUT I HAVE SEEN THIS ITEM SOME WHERE BEFORE.

I don't think it's a lightning rod as those invariably have a sharp point.

Looks like maybe a strap loop at the wide end. Does it slide?

As far as my limited engineering schmartz go there are only two reasons to go to the difficulty of tapering a shaft: flexibility and weight.

And, if the round end is, maybe, the ball that fit in a ball-and-socket joint. Maybe a tractor tie rod, drag link or radius arm? That is a WAG of the first order.

DANG! That is indeed it, nicely done vhs07. Boy that thing was a long way from home I may have to hold off on the gold gettin and conscentrate on beeping the cabin sites and see if I can find it's mate. Thank you, I think I will donate it to the local museum in the area as well:thumbsup:

YOU KNOW I KINDA THOUGHT THE SAME IDEA BUT DIDNT WANT TO LOOK LIKE A FOOL IF IT WAS WRONG , LOOKS LIKE A FENCING SWORD SHEATH . NICE FIND AND GOOD LUCK LOCATING THE MISSING LINK. HECK OF AN ID THERE VHS O7.
