G.A.R. Medallion

I found this medallion a couple days ago at a torn down house site and I'm wondering if maybe there's someone on the forum who can give me and idea of when it was actually made. I've tried doing a google search to I.D. the serial number the serial number is "A 8 39"

GAR Membership Badge. According to this random person on the internet - "The letter at the start of the number is the surname initial of the commander-in-chief of the GAR at the time the badge was made..."

If this is the case then yours would fall somewhere between Alger (1889) and Adams (1893).
