Gambler's Dice!!! Got to be one of my favorite finds ever!!! Plus more sifted items..

Found one of the coolest (In my own personal opinion!) things I have ever found! Appears to be a 10 sided gambling die. If you look close, you can see a "grain" to the material, I can't tell if it is bone, or something else, but it looks like some kind of organic material, it's really hard to say... but I just can't stop playing with it... I've been carrying it around in my pocket all day long lol! I also found a cool clay pipe, (my first) and a bottle that says : "Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription" on the frount and on the sides it says : " R.V. Pierce, M.D." and the other side : "Buffalo N.Y." The embossing is very light, but still a cool bottle i.m.o. Also found a nice agate arrow point later in the day. Was a great day today! Thanks for looking!!! 2013-06-09 18.42.05.jpg2013-06-09 18.43.46.jpg2013-06-09 18.43.56.jpg2013-06-09 18.44.35.jpg2013-06-09 18.44.51.jpg2013-06-09 18.42.22.jpg2013-06-09 18.42.40.jpg2013-06-09 18.42.52.jpg2013-06-09 18.43.20.jpg2013-06-09 18.45.15.jpg2013-06-09 18.45.26.jpg2013-06-09 18.45.35.jpg (I think this is a watch fob?)--->2013-06-09 18.45.55.jpg2013-06-09 18.43.06.jpg

Congrats on some very cool finds. The piece I like the best is the bottle, that's because I have a DR. Pierce's bottle as well. Mine is embosed and the same shape and color as yours but it says on the front panel " Dr Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery" and on one side " Buffalo NY" and the other "R.V.Pierce MD" I have been collecting bottles for close to 30 years and yours is the only other Pierce bottle I have seen.
Nice find,
ZDD

Hey ZIM,

Thanks for this update. You have found a wonderful spot rich in an eclectic mix of little treasures. That poker die is killer! Is it not 12 sided? These are Montana 12 Sided:

Ray Vaughn PIERCE was the King of the Quacks for a long time. He was the first Big Time mail order Docter, I believe. Ferdinand says it well:

"Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce was an über-quack whose laboratory in Buffalo, New York, produced millions of dollars worth of patent remedies. As well as the Pleasant Pellets, there were Dr. Pierce’s Anuric Tablets, Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription, Dr. Pierce’s Vaginal Tablets, Dr. Pierce’s Extract of Smart-Weed and Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery – a licorice-flavoured tonic that reportedly contained quinine, opium and alcohol and was advertised as giving men “an appetite like a cowboy’s and the digestion of an ostrich.”

Pierce also ran an opulent hotel for invalids, the first incarnation of which burnt down in 1881. The rebuilt hotel is said to have included among its guests the Sundance Kid and Etta Place in 1901." Peachridge Glass

What the Favorite Prescription was for women, The Golden Medical Discovery was aimed at men.

He built a small empire on his remedies, and the hopes of the sick. He was crafty and smart, and fought the Pure Food Police at every turn.

I'd really like to see a closeup or 2 of that great pipe. I'm also thinking St Patrick's Day fob.

If you're so inclined, I'd also like to take a gander at your sifting set up, please.

Sifter and close up of pipe

The die is definatly 10 sided.... surfaces are as follows.. "Ace of clubs, 10 of diamonds, Jack of spades, 2 of clubs, 6 of hearts; next were Queen of hearts, 5 of clubs, 4 of spades, 8 of diamonds, 9 of spades". The "ends" of the dice are rounded with like a "star" kind of motif.2013-06-09 18.44.35.jpg Another detail I really like is that the Ace, Jack and Queen, which would all be face cards have a border of stars around them on the die.

Here are some more pics of the pipe. I tried to get the inside of the bowl, as there is still a bit of tabacco in it!2013-06-12 08.15.24.jpg2013-06-12 08.16.15.jpg2013-06-12 08.16.31.jpg And last is some pics of the sifter I built.2013-06-12 08.13.34.jpg2013-06-12 08.13.48.jpg2013-06-12 08.14.01.jpg the lower end of the sifter is open, I shake or rock it and pull the junk off the lower end of it. Coins and rings, or anything heavy tend to collect in the center of the screen when you pull it up level and shake it. I have found ALOT of marbles with this setup as well. The screen is 1/4" mesh, which will keep a dime from falling through. However, I tend to wonder how many halfdimes and $1 gold peices I may have lost!!!???

Very nice pipe I love clay pipes did you did a privy!

Not a privy. This is an old dump That I have tried my best to keep secret from some of my other digging freinds (lol!) However, I have two sisters that I have shown it to and they have both found some neat stuff. I started digging and sifting it 2 years ago, and I am hoping I can make it last several years more...This is a place I go when I feel like I'm not finding much when I'm out detecting. Kind of my backup site!:laughing7:
