✅ SOLVED Garnet hunting granite creek

Was sifting fot garnets and as a was chuckin larger rocks to the side i found this. Appeara to be quartz underneath. But on top is what i am wonering about. Is it mica? Or something else?

yeah looks like biotite mica in matrix.

A lot of times Almandine garnets are in that kind of matrix so you were in the right area

Hey Kevin. Welcome to a great site. I don't know about your rock there, but it looks interesting. I used to sift in creeks, and dig for garnets in Idaho back in the day. Had a great time, found lots of garnet, mostly not of gem quality, and dug and sifted for star garnets. Found a few of those too. Good luck on a fun hobby. Do you hunt the famous Montana sapphires too ?
