Garrett At Gold
Hello.

I have had a garrett at gold for a little over a year now and I'm getting really into finding silver coins. I have noticed the at gold is not made for coin hunting as it runs at a lower frequency than the at pro. I was just curious as to if anyone has an at gold if they have any luck finding silver coins or anything great in that nature.

AT pro has a lower frequency than the AT Gold. AT Pro Runs at 15 KHz and Gold runs at 18 kHz. The AT Gold will find silver coins just as good as the AT Pro.

The gold runs at a higher freq and is designed to find small gold but it will find silver if you pass your coil over a silver coin.

We must have been typing at same time Irish lol

The AT Gold is a fine coin hunter. Unfortunately, the thing that it excels at (gold) can make it a bit of an inconvienence in areas with a high amount of aluminum trash. Especially areas (parks) where aluminum cans have a tendency to get run over by a mower. The little shards of aluminum can be picked up at pretty significant depths with the Gold. With the sensitivity of the Gold this may be a little maddening to newer users. However, this can also be blessing as it will hit better than the Pro any smaller gold pieces too.

As stated by Irish & Kodiak, the Gold has the higher freq of the two. Lower frequencies generally tend to hit higher conductors (silver, copper) better and higher freqs tend to hit better on the lower conductors (gold, aluminum) and smaller items, making the Pro usually preferred for coin hunting and the Gold for relics & gold.

^^^^^^^ That is a great answer. The gold will find silver you just have to swing over it. Good luck.

I was burying a 1957 quarter in the ground today and it would not hit at six inches when I covered it back up..I was a little disappointed.. I have been thinking about getting an etrac lately. Thanks for all the input though everyone.

theres something not right there im in a metal detecting club here and some of the best and most silver finds in a year come from guys swingin the at gold one guy digs 100+ silver and the others are 50+ the at gold is completely capable silver finding machine. just the other day my hunting partner dug a 1916 silver 5c canadian which is smaller and thinner than a dime at 8". all u need is practice u got a good machine there

Freshly buried coins will not hit like they do in the field. Also, you want to make sure your ground is clean (no iron) before you bury your coin.

something not rite there I know the gold will pick up a quarter at 6 inches. I have a test garden and you have to let them set in ground awhile. I buried dimes at 8 inches and my pro picks them up great with a solid squeak and an 81 VDI. Quarters at 6 inches should be loud and clear. I took a silver dime to a real trashy area and dug a hole rite in middle of iron rust and it was very hard to get a good signal with the stock coil but the 5x8 gave a dig signal not perfect but a signal I wouldn't pass up. Give that quarter some time to settle in. I want to add the at gold to my pro so I can use the all metal mode with threshold on some old sites to get even deeper. You have a great machine and someone has to have lost a silver coin for you to find it. Good luck.

When I hear reports like a quarter can't be found at six inches, I can only assume the ground balance is not set right. I've found coins at twelve inches, probably deeper and I've not talking about quarters.

As for aluminum, you should watch the video on hunting trashy city parks. There are some comments on using Iron Audio. The AT Gold IA will detect can slaw, even pull tab alloys. Not strong but it's there. I don't think the Pro can do that.

Oh trust me. The ATPro picks up can slaw and pull tabs just fine. Way too fine.

IA stands for Iron Audio. With the AT Gold when you use it on can slaw (other aluminum sometimes) you can hear the low growl a little bit. When I first heard it I thought there was something wrong with my machine. Took me quite a while to figure out it's the alloys sounding off.

Have you tried a stock at pro coil on the gold? Wonder if that would get deep in all metal mode. It should I would think.

I just bout the stock at pro coil this year for my at gold..most the time I run it in discrimination one mode so that way I can hear different tones because when you have it on all metal mode it all sounds the same.. I know you get deeper with all metal mode but I don't like it as much..do you think that could be a problem?

no you just have to hunt somewhere where you have a better chance on finding silver. I was at a very old park yesterday and found a lot of clad. I don't hunt this park much at all because it's been hunted since metal detectors have been around. I'm sure there is still silver to be found there but it's been picked through pretty good. This park is roughly 25 acres so I try it ever now and then. If you want old silver try old homes that haven't been searched or old home sites that are just fields now. Look up old maps and find out where old stores, bars, train stations and stuff like that once stood and your silver count will climb. Good luck.
