I just bought a Garrett GTAx, at an auction, now having second thoughts about it. Not a popular detector around my area, so can someone give me a little info on it. I only know its not very new, although in good condition, except for the wires in the battery box, which are broken, and nothing to hold the batteries in place. I thought it might be ok to use in places than my Excal was too big to get into.

Does it have much of a use, except for dowsing?:laughing7:

It's fun machine to use, gets nice depth and really excells as a coin shooter. Click below for a link to the manual.

Below is afield report on the GTAx

I'm sure there have been plenty of great finds with that machine. Good luck

Thanks, I will try to get the wires connected, and think up something to hold the batteries in place.

You can go to Radio Shack and pick up a battery holder for all kinds of different battery combos. Just make sure the voltage matches your detector and you will be good to go. They even have tails from the holder to splice into your battery wires.

I learned on a GTAx500. Pinpointing with it is much easier than the ATPro. Once you learn it, you will find the target is directly centered under the coil. I dug a very small nice little key with mine at 8+ inches. Hope it still works for you.
