Gary point for Littlejohn

This is what I consider the working form of the point in your avatar......
I think yours is probably 1st stage................
But that form is common found form of the Gary Culture here,most I find are broken.....
This one came from the Quarry site................graver tip to boot........
One day I will get all my group Gary's photo and you will be able to the 3 different style of Garys I find....................
Garys have not been carbon-dated early then Middle Woodland here.............And I think this is a Middle Woodland<<<<<,,which two of the Gary types are>>>>>>...and is most of what I find,then a late Woodland type.......

k, u guys seem like the stemmed experts, so let me ask you something. ...... my friend found this knife awhile back, we were leaning towards Lake Mohave, but now im seeing some of your pictures here so maybe leaning anotherway? whats your opinion on this one? sorry for the pictures they are scans, no digi cam, piece is 2 inches long. another thing they are not called garys over here, they r gypsum caves, augustoria and another maybe monozuma? i cant spell, i dont have my refrences. and these normally date archaic in this area

jeff, i tottaly understand, i also do the same, even tho my area is much smaller than your hunting ground, i label all of my points by location, and every few months i go back and compare them. and sometimes like you said i can relate a knife to a point from the area. you get ba boom!!!! well i get butterflies, lol

john, when i saw that first picture you posted of the Grahm cave, i was like? then you caught on, yes im in the SW section, so the age range is a little differnt than your location. there is even talk about some of the points from my area being much more modern, the nubby stemmed variety still confuses me, but ill get it, one day............

ps., i have a friend who is used to desert hunting who is over in the Ozark area right now, i keep telling him he will kick @ss at finding stuff over there, but he insists he wont find anything, its making me crazy, i would love to hunt some river banks and fields.............. but for now im a desert rat

here john, look up Augustin, Gypsum Cave, and Manzano in the SouthWest section, they all date to around the same time. But dont forget the book you are using is a refrence/guideline, its not actual papers or studies. To give you a example that i found screwed up is look at some of the longer fishtail San Jose's from the SW, and look at the Zephyr's from the SW, looks pretty darn close too me......... same time frame, just miss labeled
