Greetings, found these yesterday, coin is same size as 1776 George III penny in my collection, but different portrait, appears cast, note sprue on edges, & spots of metal
on coin, Tried to remove edge pieces & spots, they are solid metal. can see partial date #, believe ending 38 (often the closer you look, the less you can see,
I back it off, & #s are visible
could this be a colonial attempt at forging brit coinage? will post in whatsit later.
Brass fork, can see 'SHEF...' on back, found an ornate brass butterknife posted earlier, different design, at same site, is silverplate base brass?
Anyway, I'm off to dig some more,
Good day & HH to all, Herbie
Posting best date photo I could get on 1776? George III. (not a found coin)

sure looks like a counterfeit attempt :o to crusty to tell , bust looks regal .. nice old relics !! diggin' in the mud is producing some old finds for you ..interesting searching ground :icon_scratch: :icon_thumleft:

It's a British George II Halfpenny - Young bust Circa. 1729 - 1739. The bust is a very close match for the Regal issue, so considering the rough condition it's difficult to say one way or the other if it's counterfeit, and it really doesn't make a whole lot of difference for that particular coin because I can see enough to know it has no potential as a good ctft. The better, and more collectible counterfeits are obvious, well at least to someone who knows them a little bit.

It's much more likely your other coin is 1775. If it's 1776 you have something much more interesting than this George II.

I'd say it probably is 1775, but have to see both sides of the coin, especially the bust. (which would be quite different (on a 1776) than the Regal bust on a George III) It's several little things on a counterfeit that tell the story.
