Have been down in GA for the last month for work so have missed out on all the goings on here. I see some are doing great so far this year! OBN, sorry you will be outta the hunt for a bit but we all know you will make up for it when you get back out there!

GA can be a hard place to find spots to detect. There are several small lakes and rivers that have swim areas but many are off limits (certain parks and historical sites) but a few allow it and with some research and a few phone calls I was able to find a couple places to hunt. Most of the spots were complete duds....didn't find much but trash and a few clad coins. I know some of these beaches are picked clean by local hunters ( one of the park employees at a place on Altoona lake mentioned there were a few "regulars") but not ALL of them have been hunted! I found one that over the course of 2 hunts I found a total of about $10 in clad and 9 rings, and a few other pieces of bling. Some were in the dry sand but most were in the water. Out of the 9, only two were not junk, a nice heavy silver band (6.8 grams) and a small gold (10k 1.2 grams) with a heart shaped stone (garnet?). Made my day as all the other places didn't really produce squat! I did make one foray out to Tybee Island and hunted it 2x but nothing but clad and a few e-cigarettes.

Most of the lakes would be better to hunt later in the year when they allow some of them to drain/to lower the levels a bit for the spring rains and runoff. That would be the best time to hit some of these places as so much more area is exposed (and I'm sure taken good advantage of by the local hunters!) Maybe I can try again in the fall!

This is further motivating me to check out a place that has been on my list for a while but haven't made the time to get there. An old swimming hole on a now seldom used lake. Will let you know if I go!

Best of luck to you all and look for another post shortly here and on the "other site" on my trip to the Crissom Gold Mine in Dahlonega GA. Fund some nice stuff there!

This is from Tybee Island, hunted there for 2 x but didn't find much.

Not even bothering with the other lake hunts, nobody wants to see 3 cruddy pennies and a bunch of old aluminum!

You can always instantly tell the good ring in those group shots huh. Iโ€™ll never understand why people bother buying the big cheap glass kind. Even before being in the ground/sand/water they donโ€™t look as good.

Great finds all around though, especially considering you were on the road.
