Which machine? Regardless of the machine, read the manual, use a factory preset and go slow. Sage advice for anything new. And dig everything except maybe an obvious nail for now.

Become familiar with the bottle cap setting in the discrimination menu. Also learning how to use the X/Y screen is greatly beneficial. Best of luck!
