Gettysburg PA Magnet Fishing

Would anyone know if it is illegal to magnet fish in Gettysburg if the water source is on the national park land? I can't afford a metal detector so me and a couple buddies thought we'd get into magnet fishing. Only costs about $30 to get started. Gettysburg came up and I wasn't sure?

I wouldn't do it.If it is on National Park Land then it belongs to the park. Whether you use a detector or magnet or dig a random hole or find something along the trail in a National Park(esp.Gettysburg), you can't walk home with it...unless you want to suffer the consequences.You could likewise put a bad name out there for those who love the hobby of treasure hunting. It is not like your local park with swings and baseball diamonds.

nothing is legal on national park land,
Unless your on the top of the Government Pay Roll food chain.

Don't even get Caught walking around Looking at the Ground for long periods of Time.
My guess you will at least be Followed & probably Approached.

You'll probably be Tazered if your caught Kicking a stone accross a field,
or into a Creek.
If your lucky only Tazered

Your 30 dollar investment will end up costing you many times that in legal fees and ...embarrassment.

Go to your local lake, hit the boat ramps, docks, then post some pics. GL

I'd do it. It's not "metal detecting " afterall. . Aren't you looking for the car keys you dropped in the river . Right ?

I'm sure there is only one Solution for those who lost things there.

"Contact authorities"

& Have them look for you
(If it isn't too much trouble for them to actuallly get off their arses & do it of course)

or expect them to send a whole cluster of rangers

to watch you as you look
& be sure the only thing you touch is your lost item.

But if you tell them it's in a Creek, they will say get a new one.

ThNk you for the replies. We had not intention of doing it if it was illegal. We all live here and don't need the hassle! We have tones of lakes, ponds and creeks in south central PA. Magnet is order and we should be dredging by next weekend!

Here was my part of the find from a couple hours at Kiwanis Lake in York PA. All told we found 3 knives, a bucket of campaign style buttons, a mess of fish hooks, a rod holder, a fork, large metal stake, a lawn chair, various bits of metal, and my big find was a Razor Scooter, in working condition.

Any issues at Kiwanis Lake? I thought about taking my metal detector there, but it isn't exactly in the safest part of York.

If anybody asks questions, I would just say that you are trying to retrieve a boat anchor that you lost.

Now you just need to find a magnet that can pick up non-ferrous metals

Park rules for York, PA:
Park Rules - No person or vehicle shall remain in any park between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless by permit or authorized by the Director. No person shall drive through or park a motor vehicle partially or totally on lawn areas of any park unless otherwise permitted. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in any park. No littering. All trash must be disposed of in the proper containers. (Codified Ordinance Article 741.02) Feeding of water foul is prohibited.

Moonshine: for magnet fishing ? fined and jailed-till-trial ? While I have no doubt that somewhere in the minutia, and if you asked enough archies or bored rangers, that ... yes.... no doubt you and I can find a "no" to this dastardly activity.

But I'm just curious: Can you cite any incident of anyone getting fined, and jailed-till-trial, for magnet fishing ? If you have any such accounts, I'd love to hear it.

jailed till trial ? only for murder or Bail Problems .
Although doing it in a national Park,
can be considered a serious crime, I don't think Magnet fishing
will get you time without bail
