'Sup peoples! Came up on a piece I ain't never think I'd find. It's no doubt a Large Cent, but it's so raggedy I can't tell which year. Maybe one a ya'll folks could drop some knowledge on it. I gots to give a shout out to my boy Toofpik, who provided a brotha wit' invaluable research. He seen me swingin' dis thang across da street from Cypress Garden Projects and turned me onto dis park 'round da way. He say he heard some civil war types of $*** went down there a while back and maybe I could find a musket ball or some Yankee scrilla. Sho' 'nuff, I creeped down there one night and hunted that mug. There be a creek run through it, but it had been dried up on account of this drought and such, so I swung dis Minelab all up in dat creekbed. Dat's where I had found dis coppa.

Nice find on the large cent! :thumbsup:To bad you can't tell what it is. :icon_scratch:

I don't think it's a large cent, but it is possibly a token or post-colonial piece from the 1760-1799 period. The front looks like a man's head facing left (to me, anyway). Take a look at some of the coins on this site, and see if you can find a match:

It could be a Washington piece, or it could be a North Wales token, but it is too far gone to tell. I think it could also be a Conder Token of some sort. I would take a good look through the Conders if I were you, since there are many designs. The bad news is that the Conders aren't worth very much in "dug" condition. Here's a page with several Conders pictured.

Cleaning your coin will not reduce the corrosion, just cause it to lose even more detail. So don't mess any more with it. And one last thing- go back there and dig more! If you found an 18th century piece there, have another go at it for certain, and dig every decent signal you get.

Patrick, Sweet copper. Keep after that spot.Talk however you want I understand just fine. It's the folks on here that can't spell that throw me off. Keep postin' Bro'. People aways want to jump on the folks who don't do things the way they think they should be done. Just beause society says so, don't make it so.

I agree it is not a braided cent. I have a braided in worse condition than your coin or token and the braid knot on the profile gave it away for me. let it set undisturbed for a while and a little more detail might come through! And please don't change the way u post I get a big smile whenever u mention toothpik!!

Wazzup Peeps???

Aint no large cent, fo real! Dis ain't be an English only site. Word!

Hey Patrick Earl--That's an AWESOME find.

Go hunt that area deep and pull in some more

I don't think it's an LC either, Don. Looks like a colonial copper.

dat coin be bangin! haha ;D

Looks like a King George Copper to me, I have made the same mistake with one in the past, if you ever find another old copper best thing to do is let the dirt dry for a few days and slowly work it out with your fingers.

Patrick you know how to raise the rooof nice find............aa
