Don't know anything about this black rock that has American Indian etching. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

The husband and I decided we had to give digging a shot while visiting Santa Fe with the family. We didn't have a lot of time, but we had fun. Husband found most of them....My turn next time, I guess...

Thanks for looking.

Interesting finds. Were you hunting near the Civil War battle site?

Good stuff ! I'm wondering how you are connecting the "black rock" item to Native Americana ? It seems a bit too geometric ,
almost like a game piece of some kind . The eagle cuff button is a nice relic from the "Battle of Glorieta Pass " ( a massive CW
battle that a lot of people are unaware of) - the triangular bit is a piece off a rosary necklace I think , looks to have some age to it .

Very nice finds, especially the hooks to the belt plate. I would hit that place again for the rest of it:thumbsup:

Nice finds!

Yes, we hunted a small hillside in Glorieta. We chose to go to a place near the battle site...

Thanks for the reply, Argentium. I don't know what the small black rock is. I looked it over, and thought the triangle/diamond design looked to be familiar to Navajo or Zuni. The face on the other side looked a little strange...alien face type. I look at it, and understand that it is not practical in an American Indian type way, but it is not practical for anyone. Maybe it is a game piece...I'm stumped.

Thank you for sharing your hunt and those pictures with us

Your black rock thing actually look like a big button for a jacket from the 70's something like this Vintage-70s-AMAZING-Grendale-Duffel-Duffle-Lined-Winter-Coat-XS-36-361183436364.jpg

Have to disagree with you back-of-the-woods, my hands aren't extremely large; so the rock is not very large. It also does not have any type of loop, hoop or other fastening type item attached to indicate that it is remotely close to being a 70s type coat button. I can't tell from the picture you posted what the buttons on it actually look like, but if size is any factor of persuasion, as I would say in this instance it is, I am not convinced with your theory. However, thanks for the reply.

The part that is on the back, the alien face looking part is where the thread would pass through in one eye and out the other but it is hard to tell as it is laying down and hard to see the way it is displayed that is why I ventured that guess also my Mother had a coat with similar looking buttons as to that in your hand.

Hmm...eyes hold string loop through...maybe. It's a good lead to research. Thank you.
