Going to the country...

My results were disappointing. I picked up $724 in change ($3.50 in loose halves, $390 in quarters, $215 in dimes, $92 in nickels, and $23.50 in cents). I found 1 silver dime, a 1964, and was shorted a dime or two on about 20 rolls of dimes so that negates the 1 silver i found. I also found about 10 wheat cents, the oldest being a 1926. The coolest thing I found was a clad proof quarter. It the first time I've found a proof quarter in the wild.
IMG-20121231-00306.webpIMG-20121231-00307.webp It's not in the best shape, but I think it's pretty sweet.

I just went thru $2500 in halves and dimes and got squat.

Sorry my camera is so bad. It's actually in better shape than the picture depicts.

if'n he dumped 2500 in rolls, he must be unemployed. It takes a long time to wrap rolls of havles up, and if you make one mistake with halves, banks wont accept them from you again.

I'm new at this, how can you tell it's a proof coin?

If you get MWR, then you can open one end > slide out the halves > check > slide back in > fold over edge. I've got 20 boxes in the truck now to dump. It's not that hard or slow. I work full-time and go through around 30 boxes a week like that.

Newer proofs (post 1967ish) are from the "S" mint. Older proofs are minted in Philly, but will have either some frosting or just a mirrored finish.

Aren't you worried about possible theft? I mean, all a thief would have to do is pull their ride up next to you, smash, grab as many boxes as they could easily throw in their trunk, and bail. A guy in good shape should be able to grab 20 boxes and throw them into their car in a minute or two max.

I keep my bags in my house with my protection until I'm ready to take them to the bank, then I carry them all out (Yes, by hand... grow some muscles, girly men) and toss them in the car and drive to the bank.

My truck has a full cage to it, so I don't have to worry about someone smashing a window. I only loaded them up that morning to dump throughout the day. I don't live in a big city but have a large area spread out with multiple branches of multiple banks that I stop at during the work day. I just started this system in Dec. but I'm already doing 30 - 40 boxes a week. I could do more if I only had the time.

Nice, that definitely works better. Thought you had like, a crew cab or something and were tossing them in the cabin.

I drive a Lexus, wish I had a truck, it would make the coin thing a little easier.

Thanks! Guess I will spend a little more time going through 'em.
