I purchased this bracelet at a garage sale this weekend for a few dollars due to it being stamped 925. Has anyone ever seen this? Is it gold or sterling? I know that typically sterling is marked 925 but the fact that this is gold in color has intrigued me. Is silver used as a base metal for gold plating? Thanks!!!

It is called Vermeil. it is .925 sterling with a gold plate or wash. allot of bracelets from China are being sold in malls that are gold looking, but are silver. use a good magnet on it. if it sticks it is not silver, but a fake.

Yes, 925 means Sterling Silver as TexWolf said. Great find for a few dollars, Breezie
