Gold coin blanks in Ohio

Does anyone have info about gold coin slugs (blanks not yet struck) being lost in Ohio? A friend told me about it and I am trying to find out if its possable. This would have been Civil War era and in southern Ohio.

i live in florida but grew up in ohio. we uncovered some very strange coins in ohio, but i have never heard anything about this. i am mostly a pirate buff... and of all things i recently heard about some pirate treasure in cincy tho... want a somewhat farfetched lead??
