Gold coin bought at garage sale

A friend stopped by yesterday and she was wearing this coin as a necklace. She said she bought it at a garage sale for $2. A beautiful gold coin which she knew is very valuable. She had it made into a necklace and wears it everywhere.

You’re all too quick with your congratulations. The color isn’t right in that coin. Compare the color to my real half eagle. The denticles aren’t right either. Denticles are the little dots around the rim. Look at the ribbon on the reverse with “In God We Trust”, you can’t hardly read the letters. Really bad!😝 Sorry, but I think it’s a fake half eagle.
The first thing that should be done is put it on a good digital scale. It should weigh 8.359 grams. If the weight checks out I’ll change my tune. As of now I wouldn’t count on it being real.View attachment 2200700

My BEST yard sale find as far as cash value…
Found a table full of costume jewelry… I bought what was in the small box… including gold chain, ring, and single earring, plus all the silver stuff… paid them $5… I’ll never forget that…

Something about the wear pattern looks odd at the neck of Liberty, front and back. The hair is usually gone long before the neckline is. It also looks like some plating starting to peel under the hair.
