Hello all... thought I would share this little story with you. My Grandfather passed 3 years ago and had passed some things down to us grandkids. One of the items that he had left for me was an old cigarette lighter. Why he passed it down, i wasnt so sure.. but it was cool looking anyway. So im messing around with it and notice the top wont close properly. Upon taking it apart i discovered stuffed inside was this small gold coin! Pretty neat, I was thrilled. I dont know anything about coins, but I thought I would share with some people that may know a little more than I do. Thanks for reading!

Neat gift & story.

Welcome, Fossis..............

Nice gift :icon_sunny: I remember those L&M's very well back in the day. I think you can still find them. I saw them at a cigarette outlet in NC a few years ago. As for the gold coin? I would get it in some kind of protective cover and cherish it forever

If that is a zippo, you can send it in and I believe they will fix it for free. they have a website for instructions on how to ship it

I have 8 or 10 old zippo`s stashed away. Think I`ll check`em.

Shucks, nothing.

hummm if gramps hid that away --what else might he have hidden ?--think carefully -- he might have buried stashes of silver coins where he ived at . --hiders and hoarders do such things .

its a hint to you * -- its means gramps was a "hider" of wealth--its up to you to be smart enought to find out where he hid it though.

its a test of sorts are you "worthy" of it?--are you smart enough to be worthy of his money?

by finding it --you prove your worthy of it.

That's awesome, as always I agree with Ivan he is very knowledgeable !! :icon_thumleft: :headbang: My grandfather left me 5 dateless buffalo nickels not worth any money but they mean the world to me !! :hello2: :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

Keep @ It and HH !! ;D :D

Thats pretty cool. My grandpa used to stick clad coins into the cracks all around our house as a kid. Things like wood fence post cracks, cracks in bricks...ect. Nothing like your gold coin find though.

What a pleasant surprise that must have been when you found the gold coin tucked away in that very nice old lighter!

We all have missed the obvious here......Gramps was a wise old sage and obviously knew that the price of Cigs would be about the amount that gold is worth! :tongue3: Nice find. Hold on to that one if not for memory sake then for the fact the price of that baby will never ever go down! jgas

Now you can afford a carton of cigarettes in New York! ;D

Seriously though, what a great story!! Gold is going to keep going up, so by holding on to it, it will only continue to go up in value. :hello2:

i agree with rooster, gold is slowly climbing so hold the gold !! nice coin and love the lighter !!

Your Papaw was obviously a very cool guy. Know that he was watching for you to discover that 5'er...Seriously cool Grand dad U had.. :laughing7:

It's nice and crusty too - don't touch that thing with polish. One of my relatives gave me a gold coin when i was younger and I polished it because "shiny is better." Well I assure you it isn't. Keep it original.

Great story. You must have been his :icon_thumleft:!
