Update in today's post: solid 18k!

Got out to a new spot today. Shortly into the hunt got a set of cufflinks. They were gold colored but couldn't tell much then and there. Packed them up and kept hunting. Also got a sterling bracelet (about 21 grams) and a small sterling ring.

Got home and cleaned the cufflinks. There are no markings but I don't see any flaking or any indications they are plated. Weight is 5 grams exactly. There is a scrape on the back, and it's gold colored all the way through.

Can anyone estimate age of them? I will get them tested as soon as I can, but I'm thinking maybe 14k?

HH all!

I believe the scratch is the result of whatever the link got snagged on ... hence causing it to be lost.

Dagger attack @ twightlight maybe?

In my area, the only place that can test it apparently makes its own hours. Tomorrow is definitely the day though!

Maybe it was a dagger attack, or maybe the Sharknado came through and he was bitten by something?

Beautiful set of cufflinks. Sounds like a really nice spot.

They sure do look like gold to me in the pics. You should get them tested to be certain.
Congrats.

Finally got them tested today... verdict...18k! She tried the 22k solution, but it had no chance. She said that it could be slightly less than 18k, but would be comfortable selling them as 18k if she had them.

What a stunning piece of history, congrats testing123! I've been away and just now saw the post. Whether 18th or 19th century, its a banner find in my book. And under no circumstances would I remove scratches. I love it when an old piece actually looks like an old piece.

very Nice ! Long time since I saw a set of Gold Links

That's something sweet. Nice dig.

If she said any different I would find it hard to believe.

Had some free time, so put together a quick video of finding it. It's really nothing exciting, but wanted to get it up anyway.

How do you guys actually imbed the video into here?
