So yesterday I went to the beach with the family. Seal beach in California to be exact. My son is 2 so I was trying to find him sand crabs to entertain him. I started looking at the water and everything looked like gold shimmer. So I found a good little area, dug a little and bottled a few water bottles full to take home with me and go through in the next few days. I noticed a lot of dust when I was bottling. Im new to this stuff sorta but has anyone else found gold in the beach? Or noticed the gold shimmer recently at seal beach? It could be fools gold, I'll post what I find after im done going through it though.

I have been there. The San Diego beaches are far nicer. Not knocking the OP. I would be surprised if you found gold there. I would also kick myself for having spent my time there fishing if there was gold to be had.

I used to body surf at Seal Bach back in the late 60's and early 70's,
and did some beach detecting there (along with HB and Newport)
in the early 80's, and the pickings weren't too bad back then.

As for gold....haven't a clue. What I would try is taking a couple
5 gal buckets down along with a 20 mesh classifier, and then
you'll be bring home any potential gold bearing material and
leaving the dreck behind. Pick an area showing very dark or
black sand, and start classifying. Pan it out carefully at home,
or better yet use a blue bowl or miller table. If there's gold
there it'll show up.
Ya never know till ya try!

Why do I get the feeling that tomorrow, there will be at least 10 ppl show up at seal bch, with 5 gallon buckets?

Sounds to me like you found some fools gold to me. Don't mean to burst your bubble, but saying you saw it on top and seeing the flakes as you bottled it makes it apparent.

I live next to Seal Beach and you are seeing Gold Mica Flakes (the ocean's fool's gold)

Pyrite is the prospector's fool's gold

in the future if you get up into the mountain creeks and find stuff that looks like gold , send it to me and I'll check it out for you.

Actually there has been gold found on the beaches from Santa Barbra northward. Not all beaches mind you, but it's there. Not sure of any finds south of S.B. Best bets are near the mouths of rivers that are draining gold areas inland.
