Hello all, I found a couple gold rings and I'm stumped on the makers marks, especially the one with the red stone since there are no numbers. The small band has a C with what looks like would be a diamond on top and the one with the red stone/glass only has a diagonal anchor and a K. Any help of even where to look for an answer would be awesome! Thanks!

Ok, so a little more searching and it looks like a sideways anchor is from Birmingham England and is gold. An anchor in a vertical position would be silver. The K is a date but I'm not sure what date, it could be a few different ones, 1782-83 (I don't think it's this date) 1859-1860 (Maybe this one) 1934-35 (probably not this one either) Here is a link of the assayer date letters...those are for silver but also for gold

I had the same research outcome as YOU. Strange, to say the least. I also noticed that Karat numbers weren't mandatory until a specific time era. That MAY explain the lack of a purity number. I will keep digging to see what else I can come across, if any. GL...

Most of the GOLD mm's have a lion and an anchor. The site stated it wasn't an, "either/or" situation. It was both. Some similar Scotland ones may be worth looking into.

imagearhead, from what I read I thought the lion meant sterling silver. Can you give me some links? Thanks for your help. I'm taking it to a jeweler tomorrow

Cool find, this one has me stumped.. I know the anchor represents the Assay Office Birmingham. I have never seen one at an angle however.. Letter K may be a date letter or Karat.. The Ice Cube ring at a distance seems to have a BK or 18.. maybe karat weight rose gold.. I would love to read updates on this .. nice job

s2ndjetli, the ice cube one is definitely marked 18K and it's yellow gold. I took the other one to a jeweler today and right away he told me the stone is fake, or not a stone. It's probably colored glass. That's what I thought also. He also said that the ring is most likely between 8 and 10K gold. I'm thinking 9 just because a lot of older jewelry from England is usually that. I'd really love to get this to an expert in period jewelry, at least to confirm an approximate year on it.

I haven't slept since I've found it either haha. I've found 4 gold rings now and I only have a definite on 1 hallmark. It says ®KEEPSAKE 14K. It is not the same mark on the now owned Walmart keepsake jewelry

Interesting...I also come up with Birmingham England...but not so sure on the date...as it does not have a "shield cartouche" around the "K" which would help narrow it down quite a bit...

The shield cartouche thing has me stumped too. Everything I see (with silver at least) are separate stamps, the anchor in one, the date letter in another. These ones are together.

I don't think those are British marks for the reasons stated above. If British marks there should be an assay office mark, a date stamp, a purity mark, and a maker's mark.

Well, I looked through most of it and didn't see anything but this online book could come in handy for someone else looking for colonial makers marks. It's called "A List of Early American Silversmiths and Their Marks"
