try the gold panning clubs that lease land on gold bearing streams. 15 years ago panned those area, but even then it is almost all private land and trust me you don't go sneaking around in that area of GA. We had permission on 40 acres and adjacent to that was about 200 acres that was owned by a corporation so we went on it all the time since the owners were out of state. Now I think they have built mountain homes on that property.
