Gold Penny?

I was tired of getting skunked on halves so I tried a box of cents just to keep things interesting.

Well I found something interesting.

I assume this is something that has been altered after it left the mint, but what is it and is it common? I know if never seen one.

Just got done 100$ in pennies, and have done maybe $1000 in pennies total. Can't say I've seen one.

I got one a couple months ago. The thread that I started about it said the gold penny was a science experiment that most anyone can do, and the gold color is actually brass. I threw it back.
