Gold Prospecting, White River Indiana, And Question

I was out looking for a place to prospect in Indiana. I live in Indianapolis so I tried out the White River. I found a creek that branched off of it and it led to some rapids. I was wondering if this is a good place to prospect? There is a TON of black sand and big rocks... THANKKSSS!!!!

Black sand is a good indicator, though not a sure fire sign. Both foks of the White River were worked by commercial dredges as late as the 40s, and have consistantly produced recoverable gold since. All Indiana gold is of glacial origin, so don't expect nuggets. If you start finding dust or flakes use gear appropriate for fine gold recovery. Indiana gold tends to be sulphide gold, very pure and shiny, ranging from 22-24 karat. Nearly all streams in the central portion of the state contain some gold due to their proximity to the glacial moraine deposits.
