I gave some to a crooked assayer named Smith in Sacramento Ca back in the 90’s…
4.86 pounds of ore to be exact…oh well…I wonder if he ever found where it came from?

Contact Gold Prospectors of the Rockies as a member or two have permission to detect in BRECKENRIDGE, co. It can be found in rock clumps that have to be soaked in acid to reveal wire gold clusters. Only place in 'merica you can get it in big pieces. Otherwise its a rare formation.
Eureka Treasure Hunters of Denver had some pix that members found. before and after acid stuff.

Thanks for the input guys.....A few days ago(after years of panning/ sluicing) I panned this baby(my 1st & only). Tts just under a half inch long, and formed into almost a perfect fish hook pattern. These Gold wire clusters are beautiful natural works of art.Sure would like to find a Cluster someday.:)

I wonder if you could catch a GOLDFISH with it? Nice find.

Good old Soapy had the crystalline wire gold out on display in his shop…I jokingly nudged my father in law and told him in Spanish…That is the gold that I gave him to assay…Good old Soapy told me there was 1.3 ounces of gold per ton and I believe he charged me $150 for the assay….And he kept the crystalline wire gold too boot…

I tell you what….There is a sucker born every minute…I wonder what ever became of good old Soapy?

Years ago on a club outing to the Bear river a member of the group found what he thought was wire gold. Turned out to be from an old brass bristle brush!

I've found lots of wire gold, it came naturally out of our old family mines, grampa had a softball size ball,of smashed together wire gold from the old Morning Glory Gold Mine in Alleghany, CA. He would take a hatchet and cut some off when they needed extra money. This is from the Lukens Gold Mine in Cool, Ca.

The the last pic has a couple small pieces of placerised wire gold that I found dredging.

I have always wondered what ever happened to Poor old Soapy every time I see a picture of poor Old Pancake…And I too wonder what ever happened to the museum quality wire gold that he got from the ore I gave him to assay??? Who knows what private collector has it in their private collection…And I also wonder what happened to the paragon white diamond I gave to a Mackey alum? Life’s little mysteries can be quite perplexing…

All I can say is…When you deal with the horses ass…you are sure to get plenty of horse s***… Oh well…Thus is life…

I take it there was no contract?

How can a assayer give a realistic assay ton test (how much per ton) unless the sample is around 65 -75 pounds powdered up. Just part of that sample (1-4 oz.) ground up is run through the furnace.

I take it that there was no contract?

Oh well….I don’t even remember where that 4.86 pounds of ore came from…If I did there might be a lot more of those gold specimens around….Wouldn’t you think?

Yep some specimens can go nearly all the way to the center of the earth.

No contract…oh well…To this day I still wonder if I learned anything from said experience???
