With the thong for the wrist, perhaps it's a "sap," except when the guy you are trying to hit with it grabs the thing, then you gonna
be the sap. Perhaps a toy. I first thought it might be a practice ball for a guy to practice whacking, but after looking I don't think so.
Be interesting to see if someone figures it out.

I was wondering if it might not have been a Gag gift like a chain and a saw handle would = chainsaw, or something like that although I can't figure out what a golf ball,a spring and a handle would=. Just an idea. Where did you find this item maybe that might give a clue as to its purpose. One more question is the spring stiff or real springy.

the spring is pretty tight the ball is heavy rubber. found it at a thrift store never seen one before that's why I got it. could it be a training aid for dogs or horses?
it travels about two inch each way. looks like you thump something with it don't think it would feel very good. not a clue

It might be a golf aid I found something close to it although I don't know how to give a link to what I found..A hitting aid the thing I saw was attached to a spinning deal your thing would clamp into the spinning part.Google golf aids.
