So I started the day planning on Dove hunting on our South Texas ranch. My dad and I started talking and told me there was once an old bank on the North side of our ranch, so I decided to take my new AT pro out. Within a few min my VDI was reading 99 I started digging and found my first Morgan silver dollar, then another a few feet away. After finding several others I decided to look around some old rocks piled up in a perfect square. Then I found this coin dated 1780. I have never seen anything like it. My great great grandfather owned the bank and was from Germany along with many of the settlers nearby. Could this be a German coin? I think I may have to drive back out and check some other sites on the ranch tomorrow. Found coins but no dove.

Since no one's said it yet, careful with the cleaning. It can really mess up the value of a coin. Also, just so we've got the whole picture, do you think you could pinpoint the spot on Google Earth? :tongue3:

A Banner Find is a find so rare and/or impressive that it just has to be celebrated! :occasion14: Look at the bar of photos on the top of the homepage for the most recent Banner Finds on Tnet!

Wow killer finds, Congrats!!

Nice scores Texan , congrats on a great find .. cheers Mick

That's an amazing day of finds, post more picks, when you find more!!!

Thanks for looking out in regards to cleaning, I am a engineer and have worked in corrosion in the past, I bought a ultra-sonic cleaner which really is the best thing to use for cleaning your finds. It will remove most dirt and debris without ruining the Patina. I highly recommending investing in one with some good cleaning fluid if you have the means to. As far as pin pointing it, I would rather not, not because I don't trust people on this site but because I am uncomfortable with the whole Internet knowing, I will say that my ranch is about 60 miles west of San Antonio. I would love to hunt with someone if anyone is looking for a place to go, I have another ranch closer to home with some history on it if anyone in the San Antonio area is looking for a place to go and a partner.
