Good day today* 1867 2-cent, button, & lead

After work I went to my CW spot to try to find some more relics out in the woods. I must have walked up and down out there for two miles, but zilch. :-\
I then went back closer to the house where I always seem to recover something even after hitting the area for years.
My first finds were some CW lead, followed by a nice heavy duty 1800's flat button. It was getting dark and I was about to leave when I got a good signal in an area I know I've been over numerous times. Once I had it out of the hole I was thinking it may be a button with no shank, but then realized it was a coin. I thought maybe a Buff nickel. :dontknow:
It was too dark to see what it was so I tossed it into my pouch and headed for home. Once I got home I saw there was a shield on it but it was still covered in dirt. I thought, "oh great, a shield nickel." I e-mailed a few of my "relic buddies" to tell them the great news. I then put it in hot peroxide to soak for a bit. When I pulled it out I saw "2 cents". Ya-hoo, it is a 1867 2-cent piece!!!! :hello2: It's my oldest coin so far from this property, beating out my previous 1874 IH.

My button turned out to be a nice thick flat button w/shank. It has a "Fine Plate Surface" back mark.
The other large flat button I dug yesterday. It has a crown on it and says, "Double Slot" (I think). :icon_scratch:
Does anyone have any info on either one of these back marks? I've never seen either before.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Mikey,
Normally I would agree with you on the "Double GILT" back mark because we see those all the time, but check this out. It looks like an "O" as the third letter, not an "L". :dontknow: Definitely a "T" at the end.
-Doug-
P.S. Not a bad value for a 2-cent piece.

Thanks Jim,
Check the new picture I just posted. It says "Double" for sure, but I don't think the second word is "Gilt".
What do you think?

I think it's Gilt too. It's just worn and looks different. Try and search button back marks Double slot, and nothing comes up.

You have gone from a whining "Jack Wagon" to a guy who scores (Relics-LOL) every time you go hunting. I'm glad my speech paid off. Congrats on the buttons and coins. I was thinking about getting you out here to Tennessee so Dman and I could teach you how to hunt but it seems that you sure don't need our help. Imagine what you could find there if you bought a F75??? WTG Buddy, Q.

Well Doug , you found a 2 cent, the coin I can't seem to find. Buckle Boy snagged the only one I've seen dug from a site of mine a couple years back. But hey I can't complain, my two LC's for this year and my Flying Eagle add up to 3 cents, another coin I can't seem to find :laughing9:. Congrats to you bud, I can't wait for spring :icon_thumleft:

Your 2-center held up really well in the ground.

I've only found one, an 1864, and it was one poor, encrusted specimen.
